The Recordings tab lets you capture a voice note or video directly on the device, without needing a live connection. Recordings save locally straight away and queue for transcription in the background, so you can keep working even if signal drops.

Step 1: Open Recordings

Tap Recordings in the navigation — the sidebar on tablet, or the bottom bar on phone. You will see two large buttons, Voice note and Video, and a History list below showing recordings captured on this device.

Step 2: Record a voice note

Tap Voice note. Recording starts straight away — you will see Listening and a live timer while FieldPal captures audio.

Tap Stop when you are finished.

Step 3: Watch it process

The recording appears in History with playback and delete controls, marked Queued.

It then transcribes in the background. Once finished, the status changes to Processed and you can send it to a conversation or delete it.

Step 4: Record or upload video

Tap Video to capture video instead. You are given the choice to Record with camera or Choose from device.

Choose from device opens your device’s normal photo/video picker. Record with camera opens FieldPal’s own full-screen video recorder rather than your device’s system camera app. The recorder screen has:
  • A timer chip at the top centre — red dot while recording, amber dot while paused.
  • A flashlight toggle at top right, on devices with a torch. It works while recording or paused.
  • A large red record button to start. Once recording, it’s replaced by a Pause button and a large red Stop button.
  • While paused, a Paused banner appears over the preview, and Pause is replaced by Resume.
  • A close (X) button at top left to cancel and discard the clip, at any point before you stop.
Pausing and resuming produces a single continuous video with no gap or jump at the join, so you can stop mid-recording to reposition or deal with an interruption without the pause showing up in the final clip.
On RealWear devices, the icon buttons are replaced with speakable labels: “Record video”, “Pause video”, “Resume video”, “Stop video”, “Flashlight on” / “Flashlight off”.
Recordings are stored on the device first, so a voice note still saves if you are offline — it will process automatically once you are back online. If a voice note comes back with “No speech detected”, try again somewhere quieter and speak clearly into the microphone. Closing the video recorder before you tap Stop discards the clip entirely — pause instead if you just need a break. This same in-app recorder also opens when you record video for a report field or a hands-free recording, not only from this Recordings tab.
